SEO Content Strategy Costing You Too Much?

SEO Content Strategy Costing You Too Much?

If you want to be successful out on the world wide web, you need great SEO
content. After all, it's not like you get to have a conversation with your
customers like you do in a brick and mortar store. On the web, your content
is the only chance you have to show that you're an expert, convince people
that you're trustworthy, and explain the features and benefits of your
product to your target audience.

If you're a smart online entrepreneur, you have an SEO content strategy.
After all, one decent article or witty blog post isn't going to cut it. You
need high-quality content - and lots of it - to make your mark online!

But is it possible that, in your zeal to publish all kinds of SEO content,
you're actually spending more money than you should
be?

A lot of people are - and they don't even realize it!

I'm not necessarily talking about paying a writer too much. In fact, there
are plenty of people who think they've come up with an inexpensive SEO
content strategy, when, in reality, it's costing them, an arm and a leg.

Read on, and see if any of these scenarios apply to you:

Scenario #1 - You've found a cheap SEO content writer, but you're not really
saving any money.

Think those $5 articles you're buying are like little "diamonds in the
rough"? Chances are they're costing you way more than $5!

After all, what are the odds that your $5 piece of content is going to
arrive with perfect grammar and no need for any kind of editing? Very, very
slim. After all, when you're cranking out content at that price, the focus
is on getting it done quickly, so that you can try to make a profit. So, the
odds of your writer missing a comma or letting a spelling mistake fall
through the cracks (like using "to" when they really meant to say "two") are
high.

Unfortunately, far too many marketers out there think that they're getting a
real bargain on $5 SEO content - even if it means "cleaning it up a little
later."

Guess what, though. On the web, time is money. So, for every minute you
spend fixing grammar issues and cleaning up your cheap writing, you're
costing yourself money. After all, your time could be better spent
networking with new potential customers, looking for more guest blogging
opportunities, or coming up with an idea for a new product or service.
Instead, you're taking that precious time and spending it on a cheap SEO
content writer.

You're better off paying 4 or 5 times that and being able to publish your
content as-is. That way, you get to use your time for more profitable
things.

Scenario #2 - You've found a high-priced SEO content writer, but you're not
getting a good return on your investment.

If you've always believed that "you get what you pay for," you might be
inclined to go out and get the most expensive writer that you can find.
After all, if they're charging $150 for an article, they must be good,
right?

Not always.

There are plenty of content writers out there who charge an arm and a leg,
but don't give you the goods to back it up. Sure, they may not make the
little mistakes that the cheapos do, but some of them just aren't talented
enough to give you the "sizzle" that you're looking - and paying - for.

As a result, your SEO content doesn't really wow anyone - and you don't
really make a whole lot of sales. At least, you don't make enough sales to
justify the $150 price tag on each article. Remember, good SEO content
writers will be able to give you a good return on your investment. If you
spend $50 on an article - but wind up making $500 off of it - you've just
made 10 times what you spent.

So, before you plunk down a big chunk of change to your writer, make sure he's
really worth it!

Scenario #3 - You've decided that SEO content is nothing more than a facade
for optimization tricks.

You wouldn't believe how many times SEO-types have told me that they can
take so-so content, surround it with optimization tools, tricks, and
techniques, and get plenty of Google love out of it. To me (and, no doubt,
to their readers!), this is nothing more than trying to make chicken salad
out of chicken.. well. you know.

And now, Google sees this practice for what it really is - an attempt to
game the system. Google just announced that it is taking even more steps to
make sure that the cream really does rise to the top, so to speak. That's
why they're focusing less on SEO techniques and more on the meat of the
content on each page. It won't be long before all of those "overly optimized
pages" (Google's words, not mine) sink to the bottom of the search results,
while the pages that provide a quality "user experience" (again, Google's
words, not mine) will rank higher and higher.

So, if you've been focusing on the optimize-garbage-and-fool-the-spiders SEO
content strategy, you're about to get a rude awakening! Once your rankings
plummet, that junk content you're paying for will be a complete waste of
your money.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

SEO Lessons from Local Businesses

SEO Lessons from Local Businesses

More than once in the six years that I have been providing SEO services for
websites, I have had the opportunity to discuss with individual business
owners their search engine optimization needs.

Now and again, I run across an individual business owner who is quick to say
that SEO is absolutely worthless. When confronted with such an absolute
statement, I like to press for details.

It has been my experience that people who speak in negative absolutes will
have a horror story to share.

In this article, I am going to detail some of the stories I've heard, which
frequently tells more about some of the people in our industry, than it does
about the effectiveness of search engine marketing.

Problem Number 1 - "I rank number one in Google, and yet, I have never
earned a dime from my website."

When I first heard this story, I was very surprised. After all, if your SEO
company did good keyword research, there is no reason why you should not be
getting traffic and a few sales from a top ranking in Google.

I pressed for more details. I learned that the company who built the website
also did the search engine optimization.

It only took a couple of minutes to learn that the website design company
optimized this fellow's website for the name of his company. There was no
other optimization performed on that website.

Lesson 1 - It is rather pointless to optimize a website for the name of the
company. The only consumers who will be searching for the name of your
company are existing customers.

But, if your company is unknown to the general public, then the people who
would like to buy your products or services will not be able to find you
among your competitors.

If you sell widgets in Tulsa Oklahoma, your future customers will be typing
"Tulsa Oklahoma widgets" into their favorite search engines, trying to find
your business. And if your prospective customers cannot find your business,
your business does not exist in their minds.

Problem #2 - "I had a company build a website for my business, but I have
never received a single customer for my business, through my website."

Are you sure?

Asking this question is not meant to offend you, but rather to get more
details as to how you track incoming business.

If you are the average off-line business owner, who has built a website to
promote an off-line business, chances are real good that you probably have
never received a single customer from your website.

However, if your website does not request your prospective customers to let
you know how they found out about your business, then chances are that
people who did find you through your website would never tell you that.

If more than one person answers the phone at your business, chances are just
as good that someone may have mentioned finding you on a website, but no one
conveyed that information to you.

In your business, you should have systems in place to track and record where
new customers have found your business. To do otherwise is like driving your
car in the fast lane during rush-hour traffic with a blindfold over your
eyes.

Lesson 2 - If you are not asking your customers how they found your
business, you will never know what kind of advertising is producing profits
for your business, and which advertising is sucking the wind out of your
business.

Problem #3 - "I spend a great deal of money on PPC listings (pay-per-click)
to get my business in front of search engine
users, because after spending tens of thousands of dollars on SEO, I could
not rank in the search engines at all."

What keywords were you trying to rank for in the search engines?

"Travel. I have a travel business based in Oklahoma City OK that caters to
business professionals."

Have you ever noticed the caliber of companies who rank on page 1 in Google
for the keyword: travel?

Those are companies who spend millions of dollars per year to market their
businesses online and off-line. Do you have a marketing budget that will
allow you to effectively compete with Travelocity, Expedia or Priceline?

Besides that, where do the majority of your customers work and reside?

"Oklahoma City of course."

If that is the case, why would you spend your limited marketing budget to
target consumers who would never buy from you, because they are outside your
local marketing area?

"I never really thought about it in that way."

Most of your competitors are making the same mistakes that you are. That is
to your advantage, because when you start to market your business in a more
realistic and cost-effective manner, then you will be able to compete with
your competitors, while spending far less money than your competitors are
spending.

Lesson 3 - If you operate a local or regional business, do yourself a favor,
and stop trying to compete in the national marketplace.

Final Thoughts.

Listed inside this article are three lessons that could potentially help
your off-line business to find new customers and to generate new sales, as a
result of your online advertising.

Depending on the average ticket price of purchases in your store or service
business, how much could an extra 20, 50 or 100 new customers bring into
your business each month? You do the math.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

Bing Optimization Tips For Your Website

Bing Optimization Tips For Your Website

You thought you were done when you optimized your site for Google, MSN, and
Yahoo, right? Nope - the Microsoft Network, MSN, has partnered with Yahoo in
a 10-year, $275 million dollar agreement and recently launched Bing. Having
gone live in June 2009, it's instantly very popular. There's even talk that
it may eventually replace Google as the most popular search engine because
it is intuitive and offers users a number of search options.

Early reports also show that Bing users are more likely to click on
advertisements than Google users. Time will tell and Google will most
certainly have an answer to Bing's growing popularity. While we can't
predict the future, all signs point to making the effort now to learn SEO
for Bing.

Here are the top 6 ways to do that today.

1) Manage Length of Your Content

Make your content longer than 300 words. According to SEO experts, Bing
algorithms seem to place a higher value on content that is over 300 words.
That means longer blog posts, more content on web pages and longer articles.

2) On-Page Tips for Bing

Optimize your title tags for your keywords and use unique tags on each page.
You may be doing this already for Google and Yahoo. Keep it up. Bing really
likes title tags and pays attention to them when indexing and ranking your
page. If you haven't been paying too much attention to them up until now, it's
time to start.

3) Bing Linking

Linking is always important in SEO. However, unlike Google, when doing SEO
for Bing, pay more attention to building backlinks from highly relevant
websites. Also, Bing really likes outbound links and gives a bit more weight
than the other search engines do.

4) Keyword Targeting

Bing's own FAQ page suggests that you target no more than two keywords per
page. We suggest you follow this rule. Usually you will want to target one
main keyword you are trying to get ranked for and a more long-tail keyword
which contains your main keyword in it.

5) Meta Tags

You may have let your meta tags slide over the years because rumor has it
Google doesn't really pay much attention to them. However, Bing recommends
you use unique description tags on each page.

6) Continue All Other Good SEO Practices

Good SEO for Bing does have some differences than Google, but good SEO
practices still need to be followed too. For example:

* Use H1 tags
* Use text navigation links
* Use keywords in your URL

There's a bit of disagreement between experts. There are some reports that
indicate Bing places value on longevity. The older your website, the more
respect Bing seems to want to give you. However, other sources cite that
younger, newer sites, have the advantage. Regardless, whether you're a brand
new site or a website that's been around for years, put the above practices
in place and be patient.

As an internet business owner it's always good to pay attention to what the
big three are doing, the big three being MSN, Yahoo, and Google. And when
two of them team up then that most certainly deserves a change in strategy.
As the months pass and Bing continues to grow, there will likely be some
additions or changes to how SEO for Bing will work. They may change things
up and decide one day to index and rank websites differently. Stay tuned for
further developments.

be done today."

Things to Look for in SEO

Things to Look for in SEO

Everyone, from a corner coffee shop to an enterprise cloud provider,
benefits from good SEO. But how do you get "good" SEO? Few people even
understand the concept of search engine optimization, let alone what makes
"good" SEO. You can attempt to go at it alone, but it will ultimately cost
you more money in man-hours than it would have cost you to outsource.

Although many business owners consider themselves Internet savvy, the
learning curve for optimizing a business for search engines and social media
is always expanding. The better choice is to hire an outside firm to handle
SEO, but how do you know if you are getting reliable service? To make it
simple, we've broken down the top 10 things to look for before hiring an SEO
company.

1. Transparency - A good SEO professional or firm will have no problem
explaining to you exactly how his or her services work. You should know
exactly how much time will be spent working on your SEO needs. The person
you hire, should also reveal to you the techniques used to boost your
website or business's exposure online, rather than hide it from you. The
goal is to help you become more informed so you can perform basic
maintenance SEO without the help of a professional. They should fulfill all
of the recommendations made by Google for companies looking for SEO.

2. Strategy - The company should have a strong grasp of overall SEO
strategies and how to adapt them to your business and your needs. Don't hire
a company that is stuck on a single marketing strategy. Performing on-page
optimization is a necessary part of SEO, but that's only part of the entire
process. Find a company that can provide you with a complete range of SEO
services.

3. Reporting - Your chosen SEO professional should report back to you on a
regular basis concerning the tactics being used to market your business. If
there is something you don't understand, you should be able to ask questions
without being told to let the professionals handle it.

4. Experience - Experience is a key factor in determining which SEO company
to hire. The Internet is constantly changing, so the longer someone has been
providing SEO services, the better the chances are that he or she is staying
ahead of the latest advances in search engine algorithms and social media
trends.

5. Structure - An SEO professional should be structured and professional. No
one wants to hire someone to do SEO work who does it "on the side." Instead,
the person or company you hire, should be structured and abide by deadlines.

Furthermore, you should have no problem contacting him or her when you need
to, and phone calls should not take several days to return.

6. Budget - Be upfront about how much you are willing to spend, and demand a
clear budget, broken down into itemized expenses. While you should expect to
pay for good SEO, the company or person you hire, should have no problem
revealing exactly how much of your money is being on marketing your
business, and how much is paying for professional services.

7. Promises - Run away if you are promised top results in a search engine.
While the goal is to give you the very best ranking you can get in your
market, no one can realistically promise you a #1 ranking or fast results.
It could happen, but it's more likely that it will take at least six months
to start seeing the long-lasting results of an SEO campaign.

8. Ranking - If the company's good at what they do, you should see their
pages high in results for SEO-related searches. Ask for examples of previous
work they've done to prove their ability to achieve high rankings for you.

9. Testimonials - An SEO firm should be able to provide you with a list of
satisfied customers, as well as testimonials from those customers. Ask for
some references that you can contact personally to ask questions about
previous customer service experiences.

10. Interest - Any company you work with should treat you with the same
respect and priority that it treats bigger companies and more expensive
clients. You should never be shoved aside for someone else with bigger
pockets, so make sure that the company you choose shows genuine interest in
helping you before you sign on the dotted line.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

Legitimate SEO Tactics

Legitimate SEO Tactics

Creating a website that offers value to the reader is very important. Your
website should offer great content that others will want to link to and
share. However, it can be hard to get your site viewed by a lot of people
unless you are aware of how to implement SEO. Just make sure that you make a
website that uses legitimate SEO tactics to get your page higher in the
search engine results.

Use Natural Content

Don't try to stuff keywords into your text. Keyword stuffing is going to
make your content look unnatural to the reader. It will also be something
that would cause a person to avoid visiting your site in the future. Not
having enough organic traffic is going to make it harder to avoid using
spammy SEO tactics.

Anchor Text Is Your Friend

Linking to other sources is a good way to expand upon what you are trying to
say in your text. Using anchor text for your links gives you another way to
create higher SEO value for your page. The words that choose for your text
links will help to increase the value of the link. Even the color of the
link you choose can have a positive impact on your website. Learning how to
create good anchor text is something you can learn in just a few minutes
through a web search.

Analyze Keywords

People will change their search habits over time. You also have to take into
account seasonal search trends. Santa Claus is more likely to be searched
for during the Christmas time as opposed to the middle of June. The Super
Bowl is more likely to be searched for during the month of February. Having
a good sense of what people are looking for at any given time will help you
target keywords in an effort to legitimately increase traffic to your page.
This is why updating your text every so often is mandatory if you want good
SEO for your page.

Don't Hide Anything From Your Readers

Attempting to blend links into your background is going to get your site
taken out of the search results. For example, placing a white text link on a
white background will render that link invisible. You get the SEO value of
the link without your reader even seeing it. However, isn't that a bit
dishonest to your reader? Consider how you impact the relationship with your
visitor if you attempt to use such tactics. Post the links in plain view if
you have nothing to hide. You are probably hiding the links because you don't
want your viewers to see a link to a shady gambling site.

Taking steps to maximize the SEO value of your website is a smart decision.
Just make sure that the steps you are taking are legitimate ones. Don't do
anything that is dishonest to the reader. It will surely backfire on you one
of these days. Search engines may even decide that your site doesn't merit
listing anymore if you decide to use spam methods of gaining SEO value.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

Fix Your SEO

Fix Your SEO

On your marks, get set.

1. Find the Right Keyword (4 Minutes)

The first step is to choose what you think most of the people you want on
your site would search for in Google. Remember, it's the people you want on
your site, that is those who either would actually buy your product or
service, who would follow your blog, whatever the case may be. It has to be
something relevant.

For professionals, there are a number of tools to determine just that. An
SEO expert would be able to filter out the words that are not relevant and,
more or less, find the exact words and phrases in any given subject that
would give their client more hits, and more substantial hits. Luckily you
can use some of their research fairly quickly-though not quite as accurate,
this will definitely be helpful.

Let's use the example "Flash Fryer"

Type "Flash Fryer" into a Google search and you should get something like
this:

You'll notice "Flash Fryer" is the one word that shows up pretty much
consistently, however in this case it is rarely the first word that shows up
in the titles, other than the paid ads on the right side. You're not paying
for ads though so this is something to note. What else shows up? Stainless
Steel Flash Fryer is in a couple, there are some brand names as well. You
can safely assume that those brand names are what is selling as far as the
Flash Fry industry goes. If you sell a popular brand, use its name is what
this is telling us.

Okay, we have our key word "Flash Fryer" and we know to use popular brand
names where relevant and of course stainless steel if we have stainless
steel fryers.

This is important to mention. Not every product will be the same, that is,
don't apply the example we've come up with using "Flash Fryer" to other
things. Do your own search for whatever your product happens to be and see
what comes up.
Pretty simple, but very effective. Okay, on to the next step.

2. Fix your title (3 Minutes)

Okay, now it is time to use our research for your title. We are basically
borrowing what others have already done, apparently the right way since they
are on the first page of a Google search. So your title might looks
something like this.

(Popular Brand) Stainless Steel Flash Fryer for Sale - (Name of your site)

Remember to keep your title within 60 characters. If you have a long site
name or brand name you might have to play with it. Every subject will be
different. In some instances you might find your search pulls up results
with a specific stock number, usually for technology, if so use it.
Sometimes it will be very straightforward and that is okay as well.

All you are doing is taking what, presumably, others have researched and
making an educated guess about what they found to be the right title for the
subject matter. You do not want to copy their titles though. Make sure yours
is different than any on the first pages of Google at least.

With all of that in mind, always be sure to keep your title relevant to what
your site is all about. Don't mention a brand name, or stock number, if you
don't really have that item.

3. Content Optimization (3 Minutes)

Optimizing your content can be pretty easy, but is often misunderstood. You
want to use the important key terms you've found, but don't over do it. If
you have content in place already, simply go through and make sure that your
main keyword shows up at least once, but not more than twice, in each block
of content. Even more important than that though is to keep it natural. Don't
force your keyword or key phrases anywhere they do not fit.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

SEO Tips for Beginners

SEO Tips for Beginners

According to Google, 95% of all online searchers never go past the first
page of results.

Ask yourself these two questions:

1. Is my website on the first page of results for my industry's major
keywords?

If not.

2. What can I do about it?

If your website is not showing up on the first page of Google, Yahoo! or
Bing for your industry's major keywords then your website is not receiving
the traffic that it should be and your business is not acquiring as many
leads as it needs to be.

As far as online searchers are concerned, if they don't see your website on
the first page of results then it might as well not even exist.

Now, I'm sure that isn't the kind of news you want to hear after you
invested all that time and money into your website. Fortunately, there are
things that you can do to improve your website's rankings. Keep in mind that
some of the things we will talk about in this article take time and
patience.

The following information is free advice on how to improve your search
engine rankings.

SEO Beginner Tip 1: Title Tags

Title Tags are one of, if not, the most important on-site SEO component. A
webpage's title tag is located at the top of your internet browser.

A webpage's title tag tells the search engines, and the public, what they
can expect to find on that page. Without proper title tags the odds of your
page being ranked high for your industry's keywords are extremely low.

What you want to do is place your keywords in the title tags of your site's
pages. Make sure that each page on your site has a unique title tag relating
to the content on the page.

SEO Beginner Tip 2: Meta Data

Meta data is information that is hidden in the code of your site and that
the search engines use to find out more information about each page on your
site. This data, while not as important to search rankings as it once was,
is still useful and should be added to each page of your website.

The first piece of meta information that you want to add to each page is
called the "meta description."

The meta description is literally a description of what can be found on the
corresponding page.

Your meta description should not only describe what can be found on the
page, but also include a call to action. Being ranked high in the search
engines is good, but if people are not clicking on your link then it doesn't
matter how high you are ranked. You want to give people a good reason to
visit your site.

Also, make sure that your meta description contains the keywords that you
are optimizing that particular page for.

The next piece of meta information is your "meta keywords." Meta keywords
are not used by Google anymore in regards to how they rank your site. There
is some indication that Bing and Yahoo! still use them, but the weight that
they give them in their search algorithm is very low. We still suggest
placing these keywords in the code of your site because things change so
much with the three major search engines that it is better to be safe than
sorry. We may wake up tomorrow to find out that meta keywords are now
important again and having to go through all your website's pages again to
add them could take a lot of time. It's better to add them now and not have
to worry about it later.

Your meta keywords should contain all the keywords related to your SEO
campaign and all industry keywords that are related to that particular page
regardless if you are optimizing for them or not.

SEO Beginner Tip 3: Internal Linking

Internal linking is not only helpful for search engine rankings, but it also
allows your visitors to find other pages on your site that may not be
reachable through your main navigation or easily found. Internal linking can
also pass along link juice from one page to another on your site, which can
help with rankings.

You want to link the pages of your site together using anchor text links. An
anchor text link is a link that uses a keyword instead of, for example,

Anchor text links tell the search engines what the page that the link leads
to is about. You want to make sure that you use this technique to link the
pages of your sites together. For example, if you were to write a blog post
talking about link building techniques, you may link the phrase "link
building techniques" to a corresponding page because you would want that
page to be found for the keyword phrase "link building techniques."

SEO Beginner Tip 4: Content

Content is extremely important. Search engines love content. The content on
your site needs to be unique, well written and contain useful information.
It also needs to contain the keywords which you are optimizing for, and
which are relevant to each particular page. Your should also be adding to
the content of your site on a consistent basis. Stagnant sites, ones that
never add content, for the most part, will not rank high. The easiest way to
continually add content to your site is by adding a blog and posting at
least once a month. The more often you post the better.

SEO Beginner Tip 5: Back Links

Back links, at this point, are still the most important off-site factor when
it comes to where your site ranks. Gaining back links, however, is a
time-consuming process and something that needs to constantly be done in
order to not only achieve high rankings, but also to maintain the rankings
you have already achieved.

A few of the many different ways to gain back links are blogging, business
directory submissions, article marketing, press releases, commenting in
forums and on other blogs, creating content on your site that people want to
link to as well as simply asking other webmasters for links. The one thing
you should never do is pay for links. All three major search engines frown
upon that and doing so will get your site penalized in the rankings.

The above tips are very basic and meant for beginners.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Search Engine Optimization Tips

1. Use Alt tags for EVERY photo and image on ALL pages on your site. Often
website creators and "SEO experts" will only focus on the home page. This
leaves numerous chances to improve your PageRank untouched.

2. When writing Alt tags, use keywords and creative, unique descriptions.

3. Title each page with a unique descriptive title which includes long-tail
keywords at the beginning.

4. Use internal links when appropriate & possible.

5. When linking, attempt to use appropriate keywords instead of, or at least
in addition to, '(Click Here)."

6. Link to your Social platform accounts (when possible, not just at the top
& bottom of articles but also within. For example, in an article about 'bee
keeping', you might want to link to a collection of photos on your Pinterest
account showing urban bee hives).

7. For links that you do not want to pass PageRank value to (thereby passing
higher PageRank value to other links) add the tag: rel="nofollow" (Note:
Using or not using this tag will not impact the PageRank of the page
containing the link in question, only the page(s) you are linking to. An
example when you might use this tag would be for a link to your "Previous
Contests" page.).

8. Utilize search engine friendly permalinks & never include '&', '?' or
other special characters in your URL's (hyphens can be utilized as long as
you do not over use them, but avoid underscores '_' to make it easier to
correctly read your URL).

9. Utilize sub-directories instead of sub-domains which are viewed as a
unique domain by search engines.

10. Allow users to subscribe to category specific RSS feeds.

11. Avoid using session id's within your URL's.

12. Use stick tags & tag clouds.

13. Define your audience & write to them but from a perspective you are
passionate about - it will show in your writing & thereby increase your
comments & engagement (both important to SEO).

14. Write frequently and on a regular basis. Search engines will increase
your page ranking if you frequently update your content - however it should
be on a regular basis. Spiders attempt to learn your posting schedule and
will check pages accordingly. If you have long & irregular breaks between
content creation, spiders will not necessarily know when to check your site
& thereby delay reflecting your new content.

my motto is "Keep it simple" and "don't leave anything for tomorrow that can
be done today."

Search engine optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing a websites ranking in the search engines, search results. The higher your website is in the rankings the more visitors your website will get. SEO is one of the most if not the most important part of internet marketing. Without SEO your website will probably not show up on the front page of Google and thus will get no traffic.

Search engine optimization can be broken down into 2 categories, On-page SEO and off-page SEO.

On-Page SEO:

When a “search engine spider” visits your website, having clean html code, with correct meta tags, descriptions and heading tags is very important. This shows the search engine that your site is quality and that it deserves to be ranked high in the search results.
Title and Meta description:
Title tags and meta descriptions are some of the most important parts of SEO, they tell the search engine what your website is about as well as tell the search engine user what your website is offering. Making an eye catching title can make a huge difference in the amount of people will click on your site.

Heading tags (H1, H2 etc…)

A heading tag helps the search engine understand what your webpage is about. The H1 tag would be the main heading of the article on the page, the H2 tag would be a sub heading within the article.

Alt Tags

Adding alt tags to your images on your site tells the search engine what the image is about and also then helps the search engine understand what your website is offering. Example if your website is about “dog collars” and you have an image on the site of a dog wearing a collar then you would give that image the alt tag “dog collars” so when the search engine visits it knows what the picture is about.

Keyword Density

10 years back you could just stuff your content full of keywords and then rank on the search engines for those specified keywords. This is not how it works now, Search engines such as Google are a lot smarter. You want your keyword mentioned enough times to help the search engine understand what your site is about. Rule of thumb is between 3% and 8% for keyword density, anything higher might make your website look “spammy”.

Off-Page SEO:

Once your websites on-page SEO is up to scratch its time to work on the off-page SEO. Off-page SEO consists mainly of link building. There are many different types of link building available.

Article Submissions

Submitting articles with links back to your site to quality article directories is a great way of getting quality backlinks.
